Carl Gromoll

My first chair started out to be a form for a bentwood rocking chair. I was a student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison Art Department. I bought three sheets of 3/4" fir plywood; cut out shapes and glued them together into the approximate shape I intended; rented a right angle grinder and ground, sanded and finished the form. Along the way, the means, became the end, the form became a chair. I had about 220 hours into the chair when I sold it for $275. That was 1970.

I now use the same process along with more traditional ones to create a wide assortment of designs. I incorporate the characteristics of the wood into products that are functional and aesthetically pleasing.
